Factory Speed Tuning Tips - Drill out the Holes in the Fishtail Silencer !
I don't know how many of our group are members of the Velocette Owners Club UK, but in the latest issue Number 436,
Eric Bushell has written a wonderful article titled 'Over fifty years with Velocettes' . In the article is a copy of a letter to him, by Veloce Ltd, detailing speed tuning modifications.
Of note is to drill out the holes in the silencer to 1/4" and modify the baffle -
Nice Scrambler air filter!

Viper Scrambler
In 'the shed' -
Dan Barnett dropped off his 1947 MSS 500 last fall, for a bit of service work. Took a bit of time this morning to look it over. This is a bike we did the original 'full rebuild' on years ago, and it has a few 'shed made' parts. The rear stand, handlebar risers, steering damper knob, mudguard stays, even the little rubber wiring rubber ties ( I cut from old inner tubes! ) full engine and gearbox rebuild, fork rebuild, the usual. Of interest might be the little external -in line- oil check valve I like to use.

Still getting lots of Scrambler photo requests -
Here is a side by side - early Scrambler and Endurance -

Still getting requests for scramblers converted for road use.

One of the guys asked if I had ever heard of the Velo dealer back east where he had bought his Velo years ago -
Here is a bad copy, of their ad in Cycle magazine - from my scrap book -
I was talking with Bob Strode a while back ( who had this Velo parts & service business for ten years before me, and I have had it now for almost 30 years), and told him I remember seeing him and his brother Jim, on the cover of 'Hot Rod' or similar magazine years ago. He said he had a couple photos from the photo shoot - and sent me these copies - but never seen 'em appear in print. Was hoping someone in the group into cars, might be able to help with the search of which magazine it appeared on - I believe was in the mid sixties - Thanks! Ed

One of the Velo guys was after a deep shell Lucas headlight for a Thruxton rebuild he was working on. This one I spotted on Ebay is the type - but the holes are in different location on the Velo. - In the past I have used these though - and have even sent one to a metal artist and had the holes moved around into the Velo spec!
I believe Eric Hassel and Olav Hassel, down in California, have these 'center ammeter' type on their Velos. -(:o)

Thankful for friends -(:o)
Aleksey Kravchuk, back in New York, had called some time ago, asked if I could keep an eye open for a MSS/KSS frame, to build into a Mk7 KTT race bike. Shortly after, I was contacted that one of the Velo guys from California had passed away, and was there anything I wanted, or was looking for, from the estate -clearing his shed-. Turned out he had a KSS frame!
I called Alex - who sent payment - and frame was yesterday delivered to me by Dave Jorgenson, who transported it up here to Washington for me.
Then Dave , brings in a fishing tackle box , and says " this is for you" a few things I found in Ron's stuff, a gift from me - for all those Guzzi Falcone parts you gave me - years ago"
Now got to get the frame to the FedEx and off to New York! -(:o)

The shed is 75 feet long, 35 feet wide, two stories ( full attic). and was originally a holly packing shed - What is now a large lawn/ field in front, was at one time covered in holly trees. The trees were trimmed just before Christmas, and holly sent all across the US for Christmas holiday decorating -
Come visit sometime !
