My new blog !-

http://edgilkisonvelocetteworkshop.blogspot.com

Besides my blog - 'Ed Gilkison Velocette' -, which I am copying all the posts I put up on Pete Young's - 'Velocette Motorcycles' - fb group. both current ones and eventually all I have posted.
I am now starting a second blog - 'Ed Gilkison's Velocette Workshop - In the Shed with Ed' . and will be covering how I rebuild engines , gearboxes, etc detailing how, and why I do certain things that others have showed me and I have learned over the years.
What prompted me to do this second workshop blog, was Elizabeth and Frank Recoder's visit here over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Frank had always farmed out most of the work needed on his bikes - because nobody was willing to take the time to show him the correct way to do the work. Frank had sent up his Thruxton engine that had holed it's piston for rebuild. I spent four days with Frank, showing him how I rebuild 'em, -with Elizabeth taking photos, to help Frank remember my speed course on 'The Knowledge'. .

A Walk Around My Workshop -

It is an Honor to be of Service -
Just got in my latest issue of Fishtail - the magazine of the Velocette Owners Club UK.
I am truly honored to have been nominated and elected to be the VOC's USA Honary Vice President several years back, and re-elected to stay on all this time. I joined the Velo Club in 1971, not long after Veloce Limited closed, was 15 at the time, and believe their youngest member, and only member in the state of Washington. USA
I give freely, my knowledge acquired from my lifetime in Velo's, - from the over 100,000 miles I have ridden on Velo's , and the almost 30 years I have had my little shop, -Ed Gilkison Velocette Service-

Industrial Art -

I was messaged on Facebook , if I might have any old spark plug boxes, or other parts boxes, I could scan the artwork from, One of the guys was going to have a sign painter use the images as reference, and have a couple signs painted for in his workshop.

Dr. David's Velo -
When I did Bill Maxwell's Thruxton kitted Venom, at the same time in the shop, I did one for Dr David Levine in Port Orchard Washington. Dr David's was built up using a late MSS donor bike I had in inventory, which was also given the Thruxton treatment.
I used stainless Devon rims on David's bike, and standard touring bars, rather then clip-on bars -
When David moved to Africa, he gifted the bike back to me. I used a few items off it to finish other projects - and sold it on to Frank Recoder in California. who is fitting a cammy motor into it.- a Special he has always wanted and one that Elizabeth and him can ride two up on (:o)

The Maxwell Velocette -
I have done several builds, and rebuilds, that the owner requested that his bike to have all the Thruxton goodies, here at the Lakebay Velocette Works.
One of these is the Venom of Bill Maxwell's, up in the Seattle area. The project was started for someone else, with a Venom I had in stock, but they encountered health issues, and sold the bike on to Bill. Bill had it for about ten years or so, and just recently sold it on to it's next caretaker.
When Geoff Blanthorn and I visited Bertie Goodman, years ago, he reckoned Veloce Limited could have stayed in business, if they produced in limited numbers just one model of Velo. - the Thruxton -
